Position Summary:   

The University at Buffalo’s School of Social Work is seeking a passionate and driven Associate Director of Advancement to join our dynamic, mission-focused team. Reporting to the Senior Executive Director of Advancement, this position plays a critical role in a comprehensive advancement program, securing major gifts ($50,000+) and building a strong, sustainable donor pipeline.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Cultivate, solicit, and steward major gift prospects and donors to advance the School of Social Work’s mission and fundraising goals.
  • Manage a portfolio of 125–150 prospects, developing strategies for early-stage cultivation and strengthening engagement, including across UB’s health sciences schools.
  • Partner with university leaders, faculty, and volunteers to coordinate advancement efforts and foster meaningful alumni and donor relationships.

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • A minimum of three years in a fund-development role, with demonstrated success in goal-achievement, planning and personal solicitation. Related experience in professional sales/marketing, financial planning/advising and other fields will be considered.
  • Strong problem solving and oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to listen and interact effectively with donors or high-level volunteers.
  • Technical/digital competence.
  • Demonstrated commitment to collaboration as well as the ability to work well both independently and collectively with a diverse team and donor/prospect constituency.
  • Ability to travel up to 50% of the time, which includes local and regional visits, and work evenings and occasional weekends.

Salary Range:

$70,000 - $72,000
