Area Maintenance Coordinator

This position develops, directs, and coordinates the work of the counties through the county patrol superintendent to accomplish the goals outlined in the annual Routine Maintenance Agreements (RMAs), Performance Based Maintenance (PbM), and Local Force Account (LFA) projects.  The position also assists the roadway engineer and operations supervisor in planning, developing, and coordinating the annual state highway maintenance program and related highway activities within the region as needed. The position provides the primary county project level supervision and support for the section. This position also provides direction and training to county staff in accomplishing their routine and discretionary maintenance programs. This includes all measures and activities necessary to provide safe travel for the public and to preserve roadways, structures, and other highway facilities.

This position is the primary contact and source of information regarding roadway maintenance within assigned area, including dealing directly with complex issues or emergency situations with other sections, the public, the media, elected officials, and other government officials.

This position requires broad knowledge and experience in all phases of highway engineering support, including design and construction practices, transportation laws and statutes, drainage practices, material usage and testing, bridge and roadway plan interpretation, budget management, and oral and written communication skills. This position requires independent judgement and complex decision-marking skills.

Qualified applicants will have experience with all the following:

  • Experience designing, building, constructing, and/or administering construction projects. 
    • Experience may include design or construction of public or private improvement projects.
  • Experience interpreting and applying construction plans and specifications.
    • Experience may include documenting project issues; enforcing contract specifications; managing project files; coordinating with internal and external partners; administering construction contracts; and planning, scheduling, and managing project workload.
