Driller or Assistant Driller

This position provides critical Subsurface Exploration services for the entire State of Wisconsin. It is the responsibility of this position to function as Driller or an Assistant Driller of a 2-to-3-member drill crew charged with conducting soil borings and obtaining soils data/samples.

The Geotechnical Section's engineering staff use the soils information to make design recommendations to all sections of the Department of Transportation and other local agencies. These recommendations are dependent upon the quality of the soils data obtained by the drill crew. Errors, omissions and mistakes in the soil data have the potential of being serious, costly and dangerous.

This position will require: the ability to travel independently to multiple construction sites, ability to work extended hours under a flexible work schedule, work schedule can entail working in excess of 10 hours per day; ability to be on continuous, overnight field assignments throughout the state; and the ability to transport in excess of 80 lbs. of materials, drilling arid related equipment between vehicles and field sites under all weather conditions. Ability to stand for several hours at a time and/or maneuver over soft, uneven terrain. Continuous ability to bend, squat, climb, twist, reach, push, pull, grasp and lift.
