
Communications Officer (Police/Fire Dispatchers/911 Call-Takers)
The Town of Falmouth is excited to open the search for a full-time Communications Officer (Police/Fire Dispatchers/911 Call-Takers) to work in our consolidated Police, Fire, and EMS Emergency Communications Center. Communications Officers work a schedule of 4 days on, 2 days off, on one of the following shifts, bid by seniority: 7 a.m. – 3 p.m., 3 p.m. – 11 p.m., or 11 p.m. – 7 a.m.
No experience required. New hires with no prior dispatch experience train at $29.67/hour (Step 1) for approximately 3 months, with an increase to $30.71/hour (Step 2) when cleared as shift strength, with room to annually advance along the 9-step pay scale. All applicants will be sent a link to participate in a required CritiCall pre-employment screening to help determine if their skill sets are a match for those needed to be a successful Communications Officer. Preferred skill sets include excellent communication skills, strong computer and software skills, the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced and often stressful environment, and a willingness and ability to be available for all shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Applicants with prior full-time police and/or fire dispatch experience may be offered a starting hourly rate of up to Step 8 ($37.74/hour).

Under the direction of our Emergency Communications Director, Communications Officers answer a wide variety of emergency and non-emergency calls, dispatch public safety personnel, and operate various telecommunications equipment and Computer Aided Dispatch software.
Minimum Qualifications: High School Diploma or equivalent; or an equivalent combination of education, training, or experience which demonstrates possession of the required knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the essential functions of the position.
Applicants must be able to work in an environment that can be fast-paced and at times highly stressful while maintaining a compassionate public service mindset and attending to the safety of Town of Falmouth citizens, visitors, and first responders.
Candidates who are given a conditional offer of employment must have the ability to pass a comprehensive background check conducted by the Falmouth Police Department, pre-employment psychological and physical exams, and a pre-employment drug screening.
